Anno Domini 2000 |
2001 A crack was discovered in the altar wall and for several weeks the sanctuary was "decorated" with scaffolding while repairs were made. After the repairs, the wall was painted white, which was quite different from the brown and gold wallpaper that previously decorated the wall. 2002 The Parish Council was established and the inaugural meeting was held on August 24th. Jeremy Zipple, son of Frances and Kathy Zipple, began his novitiate with the Jesuits! Fr. Joe Allen came to assist Fr. Murphy (and a relative in the area). He returned to the Chicago diocese in 2003. The school gym received a new roof and air conditioning. 2003 preparations began for adding high school grades to Sacred Heart School. Also the house at 407 Walnut St. was put up for sale and the Salvation Army building at 306 Walnut St. was purchased. Fr. Murphy's last project was the renovation of the church floor and pews. Flooring was repaired, new carpet laid, and the pews were refinished. Fr. Murphy transfered to St. Joseph parish in Gulfport after the Christmas Octave of 2003. 2004 Fr. Patrick O'Shaugnessy succeded Fr. Murphy, as the 14th pastor on Baptism of the Lord Sunday 2004. |
